Why Oil & Water?
Our skin needs both oil and water to function properly. Water hydrates the skin, but doesn't moisturize it, while oils moisturize the skin, but cannot hydrate it.
Oils have an unfair reputation for triggering acne flare ups and clogging pores and unfortunately this tends to make those with oilier complexions want to steer clear of them, but this simply isn't true! It is unbalanced skin, excess sebum and a build-up of dirt and bacteria that block pores and create breakouts. However, using the right kind of oils is important, so use those that are high in linoleic acid ie rosehip, prickly pear etc.
Facial oils protect the skin by strengthening and maintaining its lipid barrier, blocking external influences such as extreme temperatures, over-cleansing, low humidity, sickness. When you strengthen the lipid barrier it also accelerates the skin's natural healing and repairing process.
Depriving the skin of much needed oils, or stripping them away through harsh cleansing, actually makes skin oilier and triggers break outs. Using the correct oils combined with our bioactive hydrosols will leave the skin balanced and hydrated.
A lack of oils can also lead to dry skin. As we age our skin naturally produces less oil, just as it becomes less able to maintain moisture. Adding an oil & water combination to your daily routine helps to prevent moisture loss, while plumping up the skin making it look more youthful and radiant.
Regardless of your skin type, using oils and water together in your daily routine helps the skin retain moisture and seal in the fatty acids from the oil, while strengthening your skin's protective barrier.
